Ford has unveiled the next step in electrified offensive with its new E-Transit – a battery-powered version of its best-selling van.
The new E-Transit is part of a huge $11.5bn (£8.73bn) investment from Ford into electrification as the brand rolls out a range of EVs and hybrid models, though this is the brand’s first fully electric van.
While arriving in the US first, it will come to the UK at the start of 2022, with its 67kWh battery offering a range of up to 217 miles.
The battery can also be charged at speeds of up to 115kW, which Ford says will allow a 15 to 80 per cent charge to take just 34 minutes. It will also come with an electric motor offering an impressive 265bhp and 430Nm of torque – the most of any battery-powered van, though less powerful versions could join the range.
The battery and electric components will also be covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Features on the E-Transit include a new ‘Eco Mode’ that limits speed and acceleration to maximise range – Ford saying 10 per cent improvements can be seen when using this. Through an app, you’ll also be able to heat or cool the van’s interior.
