Ferrari becomes latest firm to suspend production amidst coronavirus outbreak

Italian supercar manufacturer has suspended operations at its Maranello and Modena facilities.

Ferrari has become the latest manufacturer to suspend production following the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Italian supercar manufacturer says it has halted operations at plants in Modena and Maranello as a result of ‘serious supply chain issues’, as well as for the well-being of its employees in a bid to combat the spread of Covid-19. It says non-production-related work will continue, though has not offered a fixed date on when its assembly lines will return to action.

Louis Camilleri, Ferrari chief executive, said: “At a time like this, my gratitude goes first and foremost to Ferrari’s women and men who, with their tremendous commitment over the past few days, have demonstrated the passion and dedication that defines our marque. Together with our suppliers, they have ensured the company’s production.

“And it is out of our respect for them, for their peace of mind and those of their families that we have decided on this course of action. Our clients and fans are also top of mind for us at this time, as we prepare for a strong restart.”

It follows on from an announcement on Friday that Italian rivals Lamborghini would temporarily halt operations amidst the coronavirus outbreak, though it has said it plans to continue work from March 25.
