Fiat releases Spiaggina ‘58 special series anniversary model

Built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first special series Fiat 500, the Spiaggina ’58 is limited to just 1,958 units.

Fiat has released a new special edition version of the 500 that commemorates the 60thanniversary of the first special series of the original hatchback in 1958.

Called the Spiaggina ’58, it is inspired by the Fiat 500 Jolly beach buggy – which was nicknamed ‘Spiaginna’ – and it comes with unique features that hark back to that model.

Available only as a convertible, the Spiaggina ’58 comes with a Volare Blue body with an ivory folding roof alongside 16-inch vintage alloy wheels, chrome detailing and badging, vintage Fiat logos and side mouldings.

Inside, Fiat has continued the Volare Blue theme from the outside as it is used in detailing on the dashboard along with two-tone seats, with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system fitted that includes satellite navigation and smartphone connectivity. A seven-inch instrument cluster is also applied, as well as automatic air conditioning and rear parking sensors.

A 1.2-litre 68bhp petrol engine is under the bonnet.

Luca Napolitano, head of Fiat and Abarth, said: The new “Spiaggina ’58” is our gift to 500 for its birthday and the 60th anniversary of the “Spiaggina”, a real "time machine" incorporating many reminders of the Dolce Vita era, such as the vintage Fiat logos and wheels, the white belt liner, the choice of convertible format only and the two-tone interior. Not to mention a special colour just for this series: Volare Blue.”

Only 1,958 units of this special edition will be made.

As well as this limited-run trim, Fiat also revealed a show car built by Garage Italia, which is a modern representation of the Jolly.

With help from design house Pininfarina, Garage Italia recreated the Jolly on a modern body 500 and it doesn’t have a roof, a tailor-made leather-upholstered bench instead of the front seats and no back seats, with the area now used as a large storage space. Although it is currently just a show car, Garage Italia will be putting this car into production in the near future.
