Swedish manufacturer Polestar has announced the first launch markets for its new electric sports car.

The Polestar 1 will first be introduced in the U.S, China, Sweden, Germany, Norway and The Netherlands.

It will be launched in ‘Polestar Spaces’, in what the manufacturer describes as environments where customers can interact with the brand. Polestar Spaces will be opened in the aforementioned countries in the middle of 2019, while further countries will be added at a later date.

Polestar decided to launch in these areas as these countries are those that expressed the most interest in the new model, following its initial reveal in October.

Initial interest was expressed through a subscription model that will be rolled out when the car officially goes on sale. The subscription service sees customers reserve a car without a deposit, and is instead where the customer pays an all-inclusive monthly fee that covers the car, insurance, depreciation, servicing and more.

The Polestar 1 was the first car from the electric performance car manufacturer since it separated from Volvo. Its hybrid powertrain produces 592bhp, with an electric-only range of 93 miles – over twice as much as the BMW i8 offers.

Just a few days ago Polestar announced that production was going to be limited to just 500 units per year, meaning that getting your hands on one is likely to be extremely difficult – and even more so if you don’t live in a launch market.

Production is expected to start in mid-2019, although it is not yet clear when, or if, the Polestar 1 will arrive on UK shores.
