First Tesla Model X deliveries completed

Tesla has confirmed delivery of the first five units of its Model X electric SUV to customers.

The models arrived last night to a small selection of customers in America. An exact launch date for the UK market has yet to be announced, but it’s expected to arrive during 2016.

Recently the founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, described the Model X as “a particularly challenging car to build, maybe the hardest car to build in the World”. He added: “It is an amazing vehicle and I think it will blow people away”.

The Tesla Model X is a seven-seater family car powered by dual electric motors supported by a 90kWh battery. One motor powers the front wheels and delivers 259bhp, while the motor for the rear wheels offers 503bhp.

It has an official travel range of 250 miles and emits zero emissions but can also go from a standstill to 60mph sprint in just 3.8 seconds when in the P90D specification. Activate this particular model’s Ludicrous mode and the sprint time goes down to 3.2 seconds.

Other striking features of the Tesla Model X include the dramatic gull-wing rear doors and the big 17-inch centre touchscreen for the interior. The touchscreen integrates media, navigation and communication apps, as well as cabin control functions and vehicle data into one interface.

UK pricing for the Tesla Model X is unconfirmed but it’s rumoured to cost around £100,000.
