Ford gives first glimpse at new Puma

Iconic nameplate returns to grace a CUV, and is set to use hybrid powertrains.

Yes, that’s right, the Ford Puma is set for a return — and this a first glimpse at it.

However, If you’re expecting a slinky supermini-based coupe like the ‘90s icon, you may want to look away, as the Puma is coming back as a compact crossover. That’s no bad thing though, as it’s likely to take its underpinnings from the Fiesta — renowned for its class-leading driving dynamics — so the crossover could well reflect that.

Ford isn’t giving too much away right now on the car, but this first image show a coupe-esque silhouette that seems to take everything good about its hatchback sibling and pack it into a more practical body. The firm describes the car as looking ‘seductive’, but we’ll have to wait until a full reveal to verify that.

As for what we do know, it’s set to boast a 456-litre boot capacity — compare that with the Fiesta’s 303 litres in five-door form and it sounds monumental — along with new hybrid powertrains that will boast up to 153bhp.

No word yet on when the Puma will arrive in dealerships, although as it’s yet to be fully revealed we’d hazard a guess at sometime in early 2020.
