Ford reveals hardcore, track-only GT MkII

Overhauled GT supercar gets huge power boost and aerodynamic upgrades..

Ford has revealed the most-extreme iteration of its GT supercar yet — the MkII.

This track-only monster has seen a huge bump in power from its 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine, now putting out 700bhp — a 50bhp jump on the road-going version.

Not only is there more power, but also less weight — about 90kg of it. That’s largely down to the removal of the road car’s adjustable ride height system, with mechanically adjusted shock absorbers now sitting in their place.

There’s also a massive aerodynamic upgrade. Most eye-catching is the addition of a huge fixed wing at the back of the car, while a new front splitter and rear diffuser are added to create what is said to be a 400 per cent increase in downforce.

Helping to contain all this increased performance is a set of new Brembo brakes — 15.5 inches up front and 14.1 inches at the rear — housed in a fresh 19-inch alloy wheel design which themselves are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport GT tyres.

Inside the track monster, a Sparco seat with a six-point racing harness comes as standard with a passenger item optional. There’s also a Motec data system to harness that all-important track data.

Want one? Well it’ll cost you – $1.2 million, or about £950,000 for starters. Buyers also won’t keep custody of the car, with Ford holding it in its care, flying it out to specially-hosted track days.
