Ford teases new Ranger pick-up ahead of 2022 launch

The Ranger is the best-selling truck by some margin.

Ford has teased its new Ranger for the first time as the brand gears up to launch the next generation version of its best-selling pick-up later this year.

Though heavily camouflaged in the images and teaser video, the model can be seen being pushed to its limits in a range of settings, including on sand, snow, mud and rocks. It looks like Ford will put a special emphasis on its rugged capability, with the firm saying it will ‘embrace superior off-road credentials’ and be the ‘toughest and most capable’ version of the Ranger yet.

While the disguise doesn’t give many clues away, the new Ranger looks set to adopt a more muscular US-centred styling with a bold and imposing front end and new lighting that looks to be inspired by the F150 pick-up, which we don’t get in the UK.

The new model is also set to get a technological uplift, and will likely feature Ford’s latest Sync 4 infotainment system, as seen on the electric Mustang Mach-E and upcoming E-Transit.

Importantly, the new Ranger’s platform will be one shared with Volkswagen, with the German brand’s next-generation Amarok sibling set to use the same underpinnings as the Ford, though just how similar the models will be remains to be seen.

Ford has confirmed that the new Ranger will be revealed before the end of the year, ahead of the model’s launch in 2022.
