Here’s how Ford is making it easier to buy a new car during the coronavirus pandemic

The manufacturer has announced a number of financial proposals to help buyers get behind the wheel of a new Ford

The ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is having huge financial implications for many of us.

With millions across the UK either being furloughed or out of work, a vast number of us will be under more financial strain than ever.

Before all of this, you might have been looking to get behind the wheel of a new car, but with no money currently coming in, that dream might be slipping away.

However, Ford is looking to give some financial reassurance in the current market through its ‘Peace Of Mind’ scheme that aims to make getting behind the wheel more accessible – even at these challenging times.

Here’s a look at how it works and what financial support is available.

What is Peace Of Mind?

This scheme is essentially Ford acknowledging the struggle that many of us are facing, with the firm announcing a number of new ways of helping customers afford new cars at these challenging times.

On cars, it’s available on Ford Options (essentially a PCP agreement) for the majority of the firm’s cars, and also on the firm’s commercial vehicles on Ford Acquire (HP – essentially meaning you’ll own the van or pick-up at the end of the contract).

What kind of financial support is available?

The handiest thing to know is that Ford will defer your first three monthly payments. While this doesn’t mean you won’t have to pay those payments, it means that you can do it later in your contract, and not now when you might be financially struggling.

Once those three months are over, Ford will also pay the next three monthly instalments with a single payment, which can be between £650 and £1,500 for cars and £750 to £1,600 for vans.

This chunk of money can either be given as cashback or as a deposit allowance, which will be added to the agreement to lower forthcoming monthly payments.

Plenty of Ford models are also available with zero per cent APR as well – meaning you won’t have to pay interest. A few highlights available with this are the best-selling Fiesta, Focus and Transit Custom models.

Are any models excluded from this offer?

This financial support is impressively available to just about every Ford model – including the desirable new Puma and the majority of the new Kuga line-up.

The few exceptions are the Mondeo Zetec Edition, new Kuga Titanium plug-in hybrid, Mustang Bullitt and the new electric Mustang Mach-E.

Are there any other terms and conditions I need to be aware of?

This offer is available on selected dealer stock only, and therefore is not offered on models ordered from the factory.

You’ll also need to have signed up to an agreement by May 31 and it must be registered by September 30.
