Hotter Renault Twingo on the way

Renault has been teasing a new, hotter version of its Twingo city car on social media. But will it use the Renaultsport badge?

Renault has released a teaser image for a hotter version of its latest Twingo city car.

On its social media accounts, Renault has posted a teaser images which indicates the French manufacturer plans to reveal a new car soon. The image in question (seen below) shows the Renault Sport branding associated with hot hatch versions of its superminis.

The teaser image with the Twingo is accompanied by the caption “Did you really think we would stop now? #Soon #LetsRaceTogether”.

While we can only partially see the car, there’s enough shown of the new Twingo to deduce that this new derivative has a unique paint colour, larger wheels and sportier detailing.

GT badge rumoured

Although the teaser images have been shared on the Renault Sport social media accounts, there are rumours that this new, sportier Twingo will wear the GT badge rather than the Renault Sport badge.

Either way, this new Twingo derivative is likely to use the rear-mounted 0.9-litre TCE turbo petrol engine found in the standard city car’s range. However, expect the power output to increase from 89bhp to about 110bhp.

That sort of output falls considerably short of the 131bhp output offered by the Renault Sport version of the previous Twingo.

Expect more details of Renault’s sportier Twingo to be revealed in the coming weeks.
