Hyundai KONA Electric wins Best Green Fleet Car

Fleet World named the all-electric crossover as the best green car for company drivers, as it offers a range up to 279 miles.

Hyundai’s KONA Electric has won Fleet World’s ‘Best Green Fleet Car’ prize at the annual award ceremony.

The all-electric crossover impressed the judges by offering ‘real-world usability’ and a ‘fun driving experience’ – with the KONA Electric having already won the Auto Express ‘Affordable Electric Car of the Year’ and Next Green Car’s ‘Car of the Year’ prizes last year.

Hyundai is one of the world’s leaders in electrified car development, and the South Korean brand is planning on releasing 18 pure-electric or hybrid vehicles by 2025.

The KONA Electric has a real-world range of 279 miles and starts from £27,250 following the government’s plug-in car grant.

2020 will see Benefit-in-Kind tax fall for electric vehicles from 16 per cent to just two per cent, which would see company car tax on the top-end 64kWh version of the KONA Electric fall from £1,235 to just £154 for lower bracket taxpayers.

Fleet World editor Martyn Collins, said: “The Hyundai KONA Electric feels like a tipping point for pure electric vehicles, with up to 279 miles of zero emissions range on a full charge for the bigger 64kWh version.

“In the past, many electric vehicles have been compromised in one way or another, but this Hyundai looks smart plus it’s easy and fun to drive, too. What’s not to like?”

On collecting the award, Hyundai’s fleet director Michael Stewart said: “At Hyundai, we have very purposely developed a range of electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models that will meet the needs of the fleet market – KONA Electric chief among them – so this latest award from the experts at Fleet World couldn’t be more relevant.

“Packed full of standard equipment, sold with the peace-of-mind of Hyundai’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty and with lower running costs than combustion-engined competitors, KONA Electric is absolutely ideal for company car customers.”
