Hyundai’s new models for 2018

We’ve compiled a list of the exciting new Hyundai models arriving in showrooms this year.

Hyundai has become a huge player in the car industry, with its range of models covering an ever-wider selection of vehicle segments, and there’s more to come.

From small, petrol-powered hatchbacks to big, hydrogen-fuelled SUVs – the South Korean brand has a fantastic new line-up planned for 2018.

We’ve laid out the details of all of Hyundai’s big releases for this year.

Hyundai Santa Fe

As Hyundai’s largest passenger car, the Santa Fe has always been a symbol of the marque’s strong SUV heritage.

The new generation model is a premium vehicle with heaps of space and an emphasis on power.

The Santa Fe will also offer a comprehensive package of Hyundai’s latest active safety features, which are part of the brand’s SmartSense technology.

Hyundai KONA Electric

Following the successful launch of the KONA, Hyundai is introducing an electric version of the compact SUV this year.

The brand has hailed this model as the first all-electric compact SUV to come to market, enabling customers to combine eco-mobility with a rugged style.

The car will be available with two different electric powertrains, the more potent of which will be one of the most powerful electric motors on the market, with a fantastic range as well as being fun to drive.

Hyundai Nexo

The Nexo is the technological flagship of Hyundai’s growing eco vehicle portfolio, as it’s powered entirely by electricity from hydrogen fuel cells.

Built on a newly developed and dedicated vehicle platform, it combines the practicality of an SUV with clean fuel cell technology and advanced autonomous driving features.

Dr Woong-chul Yang, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, said: “Hydrogen energy is the key to building a more sustainable society. Hyundai Motor Company has already taken a lead in hydrogen technology with the introduction of the ix35 Fuel Cell.”

Last month, Hyundai launched its new i20 hatchback to rival industry leaders such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo.

The car’s new design includes a cascading grille, updated front and rear bumpers and rear combination lamps.

This model features various active safety and driver assistance systems, such as Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert and High Beam Assist.

Hyundai Tucson

Launching later this summer is the new Tucson, which will be Hyundai’s first car to feature a diesel mild hybrid powertrain system supported by a 48V electric motor.

The new diesel engine will have an output of 183bhp, with four-wheel-drive included on the SUV as standard. There’s a choice of transmission between a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.

Furthermore, the car will also be available with the new Smart Stream 1.6-litre diesel engine by Spring 2019, also paired with the 48V electric motor.

Hyundai KONA Diesel

The second KONA variant to appear on our list is another powertrain – this time, a diesel option.

This version of Kona, which is launching later in the summer, will feature a 1.6-litre diesel powertrain, ideal for drivers who want a compact SUV with some extra torque and better motorway fuel consumption.

The KONA Diesel will be available with optional four-wheel drive, as well as a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
