Hyundai teases all-new EV concept ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show debut

It previews a radical new EV concept that signals a fresh design direction for firm’s EVs.

Hyundai has revealed the first teaser image of a new electric car concept that will be showcased at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The ‘45’ is set to symbolise a change in design direction for the South Korean manufacturer, taking inspiration from Hyundai’s first in-house model, 1974’s Hyundai Pony. That works out as 45 years ago – hence the naming of this concept.

The brand is keeping tight-lipped on the details of the concept – only revealing an additional gif of the concept. This shows a dramatic light signature, clearly showcasing ‘Hyundai’, along with distinctive LED rear lights.

While at first the rakish styling gives it a sporty shape, it seems as if the 45 will ultimately be a retro-styled model, in a similar vein to the Peugeot e-Legend concept, which drew inspiration from the French firm’s 504 Coupe. The Honda e EV also adopts a similar approach to its styling.

Hyundai will be unveiling this concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10. The manufacturer’s stand is set to be packed with a number of important new models, including the firm’s next-generation i10 city car and a limited-run and lighter version of its famed i30 N hot hatch car – the Project C.
