Hyundai Tucson crossover smashes sales records

The Hyundai Tucson has become the manufacturer's fastest-selling car model in the UK and throughout Europe.

The Hyundai Tucson crossover has become the fastest-selling Hyundai in the UK and across Europe since its launch in September, seemingly going down better than mulled wine at a Christmas market.

With an impressive 10,000 orders in Britain and 85,000 in Europe, Hyundai’s Czech manufacturing plant is reportedly operating at full capacity to satisfy demand.

But, with more than 700,000 crossovers being built at the plant since it began building the Hyundai ix35 in 2011, its workers should be no stranger to operating at full-tilt, as the plant has done so since 2008.

Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor UK said: “The All-New Tucson has now overtaken the award-winning i10 as the fastest-selling Hyundai model launch in the UK.

“Launched in September this year, we have taken over 10,000 orders in the UK alone and the best-selling model is the 1.7-litre SE Nav with over 34 per cent of the total number. Like the Tucson, 90 per cent of our cars sold in Europe are designed, developed, and manufactured in the region ensuring products that meet the needs of our discerning customers.”

Our road testers were suitably impressed with the Tucson, awarding it an impressive four stars in our full review and commenting: “The Tucson is certainly an example of a manufacturer getting a rejuvenation right. It had to be better than the ix35 and be able to tackle the Qashqai on all levels – and it definitely does that.”

High levels of demand also seem to back up Hyundai’s claims at its launch that the Tucson will boast the “best residuals in its class”, thanks not only to its popularity, but also a strong reputation for reliability and Hyundai’s appealing five-year warranty.
