Jaguar delivers range boost to I-Pace with new software update

Software upgrade sees the electric SUV’s range boosted by up to 12 miles between charges.

Jaguar has delivered a new software update to its I-Pace that brings an improved range to the electric SUV.

Using technical knowledge learnt in the I-Pace eTrophy — a motorsport championship that serves as a support series to Formula E — the British firm is claiming customers can benefit from up to 12 miles more range.

It’s achieved this by optimising the way the car’s software manages the battery, thermal system and AWD drivetrain.

As well as being applied to all new examples of the Jaguar I-Pace, owners of existing models will be able to take advantage of the improvement for no extra cost by taking their car to their preferred Jaguar retailer.

Alongside the range boost, the upgrade will also enable ‘Software-Over-The-Air’ (SOTA) functionality. This will allow the I-Pace to remotely receive software upgrades, much like a typical smartphone does.

Stephen Boulter, I-Pace vehicle engineering manager, said: “The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy has generated a huge amount of data for us to analyse and those marginal gains, derived from competition on the track, are now being applied to customers’ cars to further enhance their driving experience.

“The new software updates optimise the powertrain control systems to improve efficiency and allow I-Pace drivers to travel even further on a single charge without any hardware changes – it really is a case of the vehicle getting better with age.”
