James May reportedly “chuffed” at Chris Evans’ Top Gear exit

James May has reportedly said he is “very chuffed” that Chris Evans has quit BBC Top Gear.

While filming in Italy, a cameraman asked ex-BBC Top Gear, and current presenter of The Grand Tour, whether he was “chuffed Evans quite” the Top Gear show. James May is reported to have responded saying that he was “very chuffed” in a Mail Online article.

May’s co-host on The Grand Tour, Jeremy Clarkson, who is also an ex-BBC Top Gear host, has been quiet about Evans’ departure from the show. However, while in Italy, a member of The Grand Tour team has apparently said that Clarkson shares May’s views on the subject, claiming that he is “pleased as punch” that Evans has quit Top Gear.

Although this has been reported by online news channels, all three of the previous Top Gear hosts have hit out saying that the reports are nonsense and false. Clarkson, May and Hammond all took to Twitter to voice their frustration at the allegations.

Chris Evans was hired to front BBC Top Gear last year, which James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond left to create their own Amazon Prime show, The Grand Tour. After just one season however, Evans has left the show, with his co-host Matt LeBlanc reportedly taking over and hosting solo.
