Jeep Renegade: What does this SUV have to offer?

Looking at a new compact SUV? Here’s why the Jeep Renegade is an appealing option

Jeep is a manufacturer known for its seriously capable off-roaders, but like most has had to adapt over the years, which is what leads to models like the Renegade – a fun and interesting alternative to a typical compact SUV.

First introduced in 2015, it’s now the best-selling Jeep, and is a seriously credible option in this crowded class. Here’s what the Jeep Renegade has to offer…

Astounding off-roading ability

While not every Renegade is equipped with four-wheel-drive, tick the box for it and you’ll be left with one of the most capable off-roaders around.

With dedicated settings for tackling the rough stuff, and additional modes on flagship ‘Trailhawk’ models, there are not many SUVs of this size that can manage what the Renegade can. If you want that extra ability, it’s a big tick in this Jeep’s direction, and a key advantage over many of its rivals.

New plug-in hybrid option

A recent addition to the Renegade range that expands its appeal further is the option of a new plug-in hybrid – the first electrified model in the Jeep range, and still a rarity in this segment.

Combining an existing 1.3-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery, it’s both the most efficient and quickest model in the line-up. Thanks to a 26-mile electric range, the Renegade 4xe promises to deliver up to 134mpg, along with sub-50g/km CO2 emissions.

Fun styling

If you want your  compact SUV to stand out from the crowd, the Renegade should be the way to go. Thanks to its boxy shape, circular headlights and seven-slot grille, it’s immediately recognisable as a Jeep.

A host of derivatives and exterior options means there's an even greater chance of making your Renegade stand out from the crowd, too.

Spacious for all the family

That boxy shape isn’t just useful from a styling point of view, but also when it comes to styling. With no sloping rear end to contend with, the Renegade offers some of the best rear space in this class – especially when it comes to headroom in the back.

At 351 litres, the boot is also a very useful size that makes this Jeep an appealing compact family car.

All the latest tech

Jeep might not be known for its cars’ technology first and foremost, but the Renegade certainly isn’t lacking in this area.

Thanks to a large 8.4-inch touchscreen, LED lighting and comprehensive suite of driver assistance kit, the Renegade certainly won’t disappoint any technology lovers.
