Kia Ceed Sportswagon unveiled as most practical estate yet

Recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the Kia Ceed Sportswagen comes with five engine options and 600 litres of boot space.

South Korean manufacturer Kia has revealed the Sportswagon estate version of the latest Ceed hatchback that was unveiled in February.

The third-generation estate was displayed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and Kia claims it is the “most practical, spacious and versatile Ceed Sportswagon to date.”

Built on an all-new platform, this new estate is wider, lower and longer than the previous version despite the wheelbase staying the same length – meaning more interior space.

With a 14 per cent increase in boot space, the Ceed Sportwagon now comes with 600 litres for storage in the back and a lower boot lip for easier loading – while customers are also able to spec a powered tailgate.

As for engines, Kia offers five different options – with the new 1.4-litre U3 diesel engine offered in two states of tune, 113bhp or 134bhp. Three petrol units come in the guise of a turbocharged 118bhp 1.0-litre unit, a turbocharged 1.4-litre offering 138bhp and a naturally-aspirated 98bhp 1.0-litre option. Two transmission options are on offer, with a six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic available.

Like the new Ceed, the Sportwagon includes Kia’s ‘tiger nose’ grille alongside LED daytime running lights, with optional LED headlights and ECO pack – that includes an aero flap to help cool the engine – also available.

Interior features include a choice of five-, seven- and eight-inch touchscreens, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic headlights and keyless entry – with optional extras such as a heated windscreen, smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an upgraded sound system also on offer.

Standard safety systems include high beam assist, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning – with Kia also offering smart cruise control, smart parking assist and forward collision-avoidance assist as optional extras.

Kia’s new lane following assist system is also fitted, with the speed and steering controlled by the car on motorways at speeds up to 80mph.

Pricing and specifications will be revealed at a later date, with production beginning in August. Sales are expected to begin in the final quarter of this year.
