Kia has announced a series of updates for its Sportage crossover, just under a year after launching the current-generation of the popular family car. The changes include two new trim levels, a new powertrain option for certain trims and upgrades to the multimedia system.
Up until now, the latest Sportage had the popular GT-Line trim as the range-topper, but now sitting about this is the new GT-Line S model, which is priced from £29,495. It has the same sportier looks as the GT-Line trim but adds more standard kit including a heated steering wheel, bi-xenon headlamps, headlamp washers and a smart park assist system.
GT-Line S and KX-5 introduced
The new Sportage GT-Line S can be paired up with either the 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine with 182bhp and a six-speed automatic gearbox or the 1.6-litre T-GDi turbo petrol unit with 174bhp and a seven-speed dual-clutch auto ‘box.
Also being introduced to the 2017 Sportage is the new KX-5 trim, which directly replaces the First Edition trim. This sits above even the new GT-Line S trim and therefore represents the new range-topper for the Sportage. It is priced from £31,995.
Using the 182bhp 2.0-litre diesel and six-speed automatic ‘box, the Sportage KX-5 features leather upholstery, an electronic parking brake and wireless phone charging among its standard equipment list.
Dual-clutch gearbox more accessible
Another update for the Kia Sportage range is that the car’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is now available for the ‘2’ and ‘3’ trim levels.
The Sportage’s infotainment system has also been upgraded to include 3D mapping, SD map updates plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility when picking the ‘2’ trim or above.
