Kia Stonic mini SUV makes first public appearance

Kia has given us our first proper look at its all-new mini SUV called the Stonic, which launches later this year.

The Kia Stonic, an all-new mini SUV which will rival cars like the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, has made its first public appearance ahead of the start of sales in the third quarter of 2017.

Kia showed off sketches of the new Stonic earlier this month and now we can see how the car looks in the metal as new images and details have been released.

Based on the Kia Rio supermini, the Stonic is more customisable than other Kia cars released before and it’s hoped that this will help the model stand out more next to the vast number of rivals.

The exterior can be finished in a two-two paint finish, for instance, and up to 20 two-tone combinations will be available with five unique colour finishes for the roof.

The Stonic’s exterior features familiar Kia design cues like a tiger-nose and swept headlights. However, there are also chunky bumpers and side skirts, roof rails and some other rugged details, making this Kia stand out more from the likes of the Rio.

Inside, the Kia Stonic features a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen device which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The boot will offer 352 litres of storage space which is a similar figure to rivals like the Juke and Ford EcoSport.

Equipment available in the Stonic will include cruise control and heated front seats while the safety kit will include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition and rear-cross traffic alert to help with reversing out of parking spaces.

Engine options for the Kia Stonic will include a few petrol units like a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged unit with 118bhp and naturally aspirated 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre units. A 1.6-litre diesel will also be part of the range.

Pricing for the Kia Stonic is unconfirmed but reports indicate it will likely start from about £14,000.
