LaFerrari convertible reportedly in the works

Ferrari is rumoured to be working on a convertible version of its flagship hypercar, which will be called the LaFerrari Spider.

The LaFerrari is one of the most technologically advanced and quickest cars that Ferrari has ever created and each model was sold with a price tag of over £1 million.

Up until now, the LaFerrari has only come in hardtop coupe form and production has been limited to 499 units, alongside 40 track-only derivatives called the FXX K.

Private showing rumoured

Production of the LaFerrari coupe ended last year, but rumours have now emerged that a convertible version will be unveiled at a private event soon. This is based on an image shared on social media which shows a Ferrari-branded package sporting a silhouetted sketch of a roofless car.

It’s also rumoured that Ferrari will start deliveries of the Spider in 2017 but only 50 examples will be made.

Still though, this represents a new opportunity for those who have both the interest and money to get a LaFerrari but missed out during its original production run. However, it’s also rumoured that only Ferrari’s closest customers received packages with the invite to the private event where the Spider will be shown.

The LaFerrari Spider will in all probability use the same hybrid powertrain as the coupe version, which combines a naturally-aspirated 6.3-litre V12 with an electric motor to produce 950bhp and 900Nm of torque.

Performance figures will probably be slightly behind the coupe, but expect the LaFerrari Spider to still be capable of covering the zero to 62mph sprint in less than three seconds. A public reveal of the LaFerrari Spider could happen later this year, during the summer.
