Land Rover Discovery added to Red Cross Emergency Fleet

Land Rover Discovery has developed a new version of its Project Hero concept car, which has been entered into active service with the Austrian Red Cross.

In partnership with the Red Cross, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has built a state-of-the-art lifesaving version of its Discovery that will be utilized by the Austrian Red Cross.

Some of the features unique to the Discovery Emergency Response Vehicle include an eight-rotor drone equipped with a long-range thermal imaging camera and a geo-lock function to give precise coordinates of any objects detected.

This, along with other lifesaving tools, can be accessed from an integrated command centre in the boot of the car.

The Discovery itself has many upgrades as well, such as 360-degree emergency blue lights, high-intensity spotlights and an expedition roof rack.

It’s 3.0 litre Land Rover TDV6 and all-round air suspension means the SUV can get to remote disaster zones quickly and effectively, helping shorten response times.

Michael Van Der Sande, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations managing director, said: “Our engineers have worked closely with the Austrian Red Cross, deploying Land Rover’s technology and talent to create a unique solution to the requirements of the Red Cross in the region.”

Land Rover has been collaborating with the Red Cross since 1954 and say it isn’t just about its cars, but ultimately about saving lives.

With this new high-tech Discovery emergency response vehicle, the Austrian Red Cross will be able to do exactly that faster and more efficiently than ever before.
