This design is what Lexus imagines its flagship model will look like in the early 2020s, while including current design cues

Japanese brand Lexus has taken the covers off its LS+ Concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

Fitted with autonomous driving features and the brand’s Integrated Safety Management Concept, Lexus aims to help with reducing traffic casualties.

The Urban Teammate automated driving systems are planned to be introduced to Lexus models in the early 2020s, which includes the Highway Teammate system that will drive the car for you on motorways and major roads.

Other systems include lane merging, lane changing, maintaining safe distances to other vehicles and recognising traffic conditions so it can respond to situations and make judgements.

These systems can also be updated so that other autonomous driving features can be added as soon as they are developed and perfected so that these cars will evolve throughout their time on the road. The ‘smart’ vehicle would also be continually updated with the status of traffic and road conditions while on the move.

The exterior design is an evolution of Lexus’s current language with the spindle grille and angular lighting, with an innovative shutter mechanism being used in the grille to improve cooling and aerodynamic efficiency.

It also uses laser lighting on the front and back, and electronic side mirrors.

Although it looks remarkably like a current Lexus model, the brand has taken the design forwards with a sleek design and one rear light bar that fits in with the boot line.
