Majority of millennials want an eco-friendly car

Most people from the Millennial Generation see buying an eco-friendly car as the main way they'll be more environmentally responsbile in the future. That's according to a recent poll of participants from this particular generation.

A recent survey has found more than three-quarters of millennials (born between the early eighties and late nineties) see buying an eco-friendly as the main action they’d take to make their lives greener.

While there’s no consensus on the precise dates for when the Millennial Generation starts and ends, the recent study covers people aged 18 to 34 – an age group the majority would agree fits into this generation group.

2,500 Millennials from across the European continent were questioned in a survey commissioned by Nissan Europe. 76 per cent of the respondents said driving a green car is the best thing they can do to make their lives more environmentally responsible.

77 per cent of the survey respondents currently owned a car and while not so many had an electric vehicle, nearly two thirds said they were likely to buy a hybrid car in the next ten years. Also, more than half said they would purchase an electric car in the same time span.

A member of Nissan’s Intelligent Motoring Advisory Board, Sarwant Singh, said: “The millennial demographic surveyed here has the potential to be hugely influential in determining the future of transport and sustainability.

“We have consistently found in our own research that they are early adopters of new technology, much more environmentally friendly than previous generations and generally willing to make sacrifices and lifestyle changes in line with their personal values and beliefs.”
