March 2018 sees Hyundai set record sales

South Korean manufacturer has its best March yet, selling 18,526 cars - 66 more than the same period in 2017.

Hyundai has set a new March best for 2018, selling 18,526 cars throughout the month.

That’s surpassed the firm’s 2017 figure for the same period by 66 units — while the South Korean manufacturer has also taken a larger share of the new car market.

It saw its share increase from 3.3 per cent to 3.9 per cent — making Hyundai the only manufacturer in the top 10 overall performers to take a larger slice of the new car sales cake.

It’s put a good chunk of this success down to the introduction of the KONA SUV late in 2017, which has already taken 4.6 per cent of sales in its segment. The Tucson and i10 have continued to be the brand’s best sellers in the UK — shifting 5,307 and 5,042 examples respectively.

Hyundai also sold more alternatively fuelled vehicles year-to-date than ever before — with a 44.3 per cent increase on the same period in 2017.

Tony Whitehorn, chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor UK, said:

“Our team has kept up the momentum with new car sales and delivered another impressive March result. It is testament to the quality, style and value of our vehicles that we’ve increased our volumes on 2017 and outperformed the UK market.

“Our product offering continues to appeal to both retail and fleet buyers, with the compelling IONIQ range influencing business decision-makers and the new KONA proving to be a particular hit with private customers.”
