Maserati Grecale hits the road with bold look and various powertrains

A fully electric version will join the line-up soon

Maserati has unveiled its Grecale, the firm’s next SUV to join its range under the Levante. 

The mid-size SUV was originally due to be launched back in November 2021, but semiconductor supply issues forced Maserati to push its unveil back. 

Now unveiled in full, the Grecale is set to arrive ‘in the second half of 2022’ and will be available in one of three specifications - GT, Modena and Trofeo. 

Both the GT and Moderna utilise a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine incorporating mild-hybrid technology. In the GT you get 296bhp, while the Modena pushes out 325bhp. Maserati claims respective 0-60mph times of 5.4 and 5.1 seconds, as well as combined fuel economy figures of 32.5 and 32.1mpg respectively. 

Both cars get plenty of standard equipment too, with GT cars featuring a leather steering wheel and aluminium shift paddles as well as 19-inch alloy wheels. Modena cars, in contrast, feature 20-inch alloy wheels and a series of darkened exterior trim elements for a more understated look.

The range is topped by the performance-orientated Trofeo. With a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, it produces 523bhp and 620Nm of torque, bringing a 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 177mph. Maserati claims that it’ll return 25.2mpg alongside CO2 emissions of 254g/km. All cars in the range use an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system. 

Inside, there’s a cutting-edge 12.3-inch infotainment display with an extra 8.8-inch monitor housed underneath. As well as conventional systems such as satellite navigation, the system can accept two Bluetooth connections at once, allowing passengers to control the media functions of the car. 

Maserati has also announced a fully electric version of the Grecale. Called Folgore, it’ll get a 105kWh battery and could deliver ‘as much as 800Nm of torque’. Maserati has yet to confirm any further details in relation to range or performance.
