McLaren recreates Gulf Racing livery on bespoke 675LT

This unique model recalls the 1997 F1 Longtail raced by the Gulf-Davidoff GTC team and comes with the iconic blue and orange design.

McLaren Special Operations has applied one of the most famous racing liveries of all time on a unique version of its 675LT.

After a customer had asked for a road-going homage to the famous Gulf Oil livery used by the Gulf-Davidoff GTC racing team on the McLaren F1 Longtail race car back in the 1997, MSO spent over 1,000 hours bringing that dream to life.

In agreement with the oil company, MSO recreated the orange, light blue and black paintwork with Dayglo Orange 20-spoke wheels that looks almost identical to the one used on the F1 Longtail – the car that inspired the current 675LT.

This one-off has also been fitted with optional louvred front wheel arches, a roof scoop and a carbon fibre airbrake to make it as close to the F1 Longtail as possible.

The Gulf livery theme continues inside, with blue and orange contrast stitching used on the black alcantara sports seats, as well as orange seat belts and the owner’s monogram stitched into the head rest in blue. The control and vent bezels are also finished in the Gulf colours.

Ansar Ali, McLaren Special Operations managing director, said: “Creating a car like this unique McLaren 675LT, crafted to individual customer specification, is exactly the type of demanding commission that MSO Bespoke was formed to embrace.

“Transforming the existing car from its original single colour paintwork to a tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ in Gulf Racing livery was incredibly demanding in its own right, but was only part of the brief; we also replaced numerous standard 675LT components with MSO parts and further personalised the car to clearly identify it with its owner, a service that an increasing number of MSO customers request.”

The 675LT uses McLaren’s twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 666bhp and 700Nm of torque, meaning the sprint to 60mph is over in 2.7 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 205mph.
