The dynamic SUV comes with a 48V hybrid system paired to the 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine and a series of AMG-specific features.

Mercedes-AMG has taken the covers off the GLE 53.

Teaming a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine with a 48V electrical system, the GLE 53 is a mild hybrid that has 429bhp and 520Nm of torque at its disposal – with the EQ Boost electric setup providing an additional 21bhp and 250Nm.

As with recent Mercedes models, the 48V EQ Boost system is used to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy – while also supplementing performance, as the GLE 53 can go from 0-60mph in just 5.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

The engine also features an electric auxiliary compressor, which builds up boost pressure until the turbocharger kicks in – cutting turbo lag and, according to Mercedes, improving engine refinement.

The power is sent through to the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system via a nine-speed AMG automatic transmission – with Mercedes also fitting active ride control air suspension setup that comes with three modes.

Sports steering, AMG dynamic select drive mode selection and a high performance braking system are also applied.

With the recently released SUV receiving an AMG makeover, the GLE 53 comes with the sub-brand’s own grille, 20-inch standard alloy wheels, chrome detailing and a special exhaust system.

The seven-seat interior is trimmed in black leather and microfiber with red contrast stitching, with the second row of seats electrically adjustable.

The GLE 53 also uses the MBUX infotainment system on the widescreen cockpit setup, which features the instrument cluster and touchscreen media system all in one panel, and also employs the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice-activated personal assistant.
