Mercedes AMG GT convertible on the way

A document recently leaked online reveals that Mercedes is working on a convertible version of its latest AMG GT sports car and it will arrive by spring 2017.

Called the AMG GT C, the new convertible sports car is one of nine new Mercedes models due to arrive during the first half of 2017. Following the initial launch of the standard AMG GT and the GT S last year, Mercedes revealed the more potent 577bhp AMG GT R last month, ahead of its launch this November.

In similar fashion to the Mercedes SLS roadster, the upcoming AMG GT C will sport a fabric roof. Expect the convertible to feature the same V8 petrol engine as the AMG GT coupe, with outputs of 456bhp and 503bhp.

AMG GT R, new E-Class models on the way

The 577bhp V8 featured in the upcoming GT R could make its way to the convertible as well. Pricing for the AMG GT C will likely start from between £100,000 and £120,000.

Other Mercedes cars set to arrive in the first half of 2017 besides the AMG GT C includes the new E-Class coupe and a facelift for the GLA crossover. Also set to come is an All-Terrain version of the E-Class estate that will rival the Audi A6 Allroad.

The leaked document also reveals two new models from the Smart brand (which Mercedes owns) are due to arrive during the first half of 2017. They include all-electric versions of both the Fortwo cabriolet and the Forfour hatchback.
