With the new model due to be unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show in January, it comes with significantly more rear legroom than before – 15cm more – and more width across the whole cockpit, the G-Class will be more accommodating than before.

The interior design is more simplified than before, with the dual-screen display that incorporates two 12.3-inch screens stretching across the cabin and high-end finish – but authentic G-Class features remain, such as the chromed differential lock switches on the dashboard and the passenger-side grab handle.

In the back, the rear seats can be folded down 40 per cent, 60 per cent or all the way down, making for an adaptable interior space.

Leather and microfibre upholstery options are available with the G-Class, with standard black or brown leather being used in the base spec models.

The Exclusive Interior and Exclusive Interior Plus packs add further luxury to the cockpit, including diamond-quilted leather and leather door trim.

The AMG Line trim is also on offer with the G-Class, with red being used throughout the detailing and a flat-bottomed sport steering wheel added.

First released in 1979, the G-Class has been a premium off-roader of choice thanks to its go-anywhere attitude and luxury finish later on in its life.
