Mercedes EQA range expands with more powerful options

All-wheel-drive is also introduced to the brand’s most affordable EV

Mercedes has introduced a pair of more powerful powertrain options for its new EQA – its most affordable electric model.

Recently introduced in two-wheel-drive EQA 250 guise, which features an 188bhp electric motor, the firm is now extending the line-up with a pair of more powerful all-wheel-drive models.

First up is the EQA 300, which adds a second electric motor that sees power taken up to 225bhp, while also bringing the added flexibility of Mercedes’ 4Matic system for greater traction. This version can also hit 60mph in 7.5 seconds.

Heading up the range for the time being, though, will be the EQA 350, which utilises electric motors producing a combined 288bhp. This sees the 0-60mph time drop to 5.8 seconds while giving the best look at how an AMG-badged model could perform in the future.

Both new models share the same 66.5kWh battery – the same as the EQA 250 –  and are capable of up to a claimed 260 miles of charge. Prices start from £48,495 for the EQA 300 and £49,995 for the EQA 350. In comparison, the entry-level version is available from £43,495.

Standard equipment on AMG Line models includes 18-inch alloy wheels, an AMG styling kit, twin 10-inch screens for the touchscreen and digital dials and heated front seats.

AMG Line Premium versions are available for an additional £3,000 and add larger 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, keyless go and wireless smartphone charging.

At the top of the range, the AMG Line Premium Plus brings even bigger 10-inch wheels, a Burmester sound system, electric front seats and a 360-degree camera system. This is available from an additional £6,000 on top of the standard AMG Line version.

The new versions are on sale now, with first deliveries expected in the summer.
