Mercedes unveils enormous six-metre, 750bhp electric super-coupe concept

Mercedes has unveiled a dramatic new concept car that it says aims to offer a glimpse at what its cars might look like in the near future: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe.

Designed in conjunction with Mercedes’ in-house coachbuilding wing Maybach, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe is an exercise in superlatives in virtually every single way.

Clocking in at a gargantuan six metres in length, the concept coupe is powered by a 750bhp electric motor that’s fast enough to pull the car to 62mph from a standstill in less than four seconds.

With enough road the concept will go all the way on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph, but it’ll still be able to cover up to 300 miles on a single charge, Mercedes say.

Speaking of charging, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe features the ability to rapid charge from a 350kW charging point, and is able to soak up enough juice to cover 60 miles in just five minutes.

It’s a bit of a beast to look at as well, with styling obviously tipping its hat to the streamlined coupes of the post-war era and a cigar-shaped profile to smooth airflow around its six-metre length.

Chesterfield-style seats

There’s also a vertically-straked front radiator nestled in its grille that’s inspired by pinstriped suits (of course it is), plus LED headlamps and vast 24-inch wheels that feature red inlays.

Despite its massive size, there’s actually only two seats inside the car, with Chesterfield-inspired detailing on the seats and some fairly swanky rose gold detailing dotted around the cabin.

The seats also house sensors which can detect the temperature of their occupants and make adjustments to the climate control on the fly, while there’s also an advanced HUD instrument cluster.

Upcoming Maybach model next year

If it all seems a bit sci-fi, believe it or not much of the kit that features in the 6 Coupe is currently under development and expected to appear in a new Maybach around this time next year.

The second contemporary Mercedes-Maybach model following the S600 Pullman, the new car is expected to be a sporting coupe. Will it be six metres long? Only time will tell.
