The current automotive market is a challenging one, from manufacturers struggling to meet electrification targets to struggling to build cars due to ongoing parts shortages. 

One firm that doesn’t seem to be suffering, though, is MG. This once-British brand continues to go from strength-to-strength, with sales continuing to rise at a time when other manufacturers are seeing constant declines. Currently, MG’s sales are up 61 per cent on 2020’s figures, with the firm now selling more cars annually than the likes of Honda and Mazda, while is fast catching up on volume players like Citroen and Honda.

Superb value for money

Ever since MG rejoined the automotive marketplace around a decade ago, this brand has majored on giving buyers plenty for their money, with a combination of generous equipment levels and affordable asking prices really helping its cars to stand out next to pricier options. 

Its MG3 is among the cheapest superminis on the market today, while the ZS crossover – MG’s biggest seller – has a starting price of £15,995, which drastically undercuts competitors. Yet, its equipment list is impressively lengthy, including a 10-inch touchscreen, cruise control, LED headlights and rear parking sensors all included as standard. 

Impressive electric options

With more buyers looking to switch into electric cars, MG is well placed to appeal to these buyers with its fantastic EVs. Currently there are two battery-powered options to choose from – the ZS EV (which is just undergoing a major revamp) and the MG5 electric estate car. With the latter offering an impressive 250-mile range, decent performance and a practical interior, it’s easy to see why the firm is proving successful. Like the petrol-powered MGs, the electric cars also undercut their competitors. 

Even if you aren’t quite ready to commit fully to an electric model, MG offers the larger HS SUV as a plug-in hybrid, offering an electric range of around 30 miles. It could be an ideal option to introduce you to this kind of technology. 

You get a long warranty

A long warranty can be a big draw to a new car, especially if you intend to keep your vehicle for a number of years. It’s one of the reasons as to why new Kia and Hyundai models have proved quite so popular too. 

And MG also supplies its new cars with a lengthy warranty, which covers the car for seven years and 80,000 miles, which is far more generous than the standard three years you get with many competitors. 

Good dealer network

Another reason why MG is proving so successful is because of its broadening dealer portfolio. In fact, the brand now has more than 130 dealerships across the UK, with the majority of large towns and cities now having one.
