Mini confirms John Cooper Works GP for 2020

Based on the concept from the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Mini will be bringing the JCW GP to the market as a series model.

Mini has announced that it will be reintroducing the John Cooper Works GP hot hatchback to its line-up in 2020.

The model will be inspired by the concept of the same name from the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, which came with special performance flourishes, such as stripped-out interior and a dynamic bodykit.

Mini said the concept was inspired by the brand’s successes at the Monte Carlo Rally in the 1960s, with the production model likely to carry across many of the design elements.

It follows in the footsteps of the limited edition 2013 version, which was the swansong of the previous generation of the Mini Hatch. That JCW GP model was limited to just 2,000 models, so expect this new iteration to be offered in similar numbers.

The announcement of the new model was made alongside Mini unveiling a series of US-exclusive models before the Los Angeles International Auto Show.
