Mitsubishi announces updates to Outlander plug-in hybrid

Small changes and new trim levels are offered on the 2020 model.

Mitsubishi has announced a series of updates to its best-selling Outlander PHEV, with the main difference being a series of new trim levels.

The hybrid SUV, which makes up the majority of Outlander sales and is the best-selling plug-in hybrid on sale today, sees a host of new trim levels introduced. These include Verve, Design, Dynamic, Dynamic Safety, Exceed and Exceed Safety.

The Verve comes well-equipped as standard with heated front seats, cruise control, keyless start and climate control, with the more stylish Design version bringing 18-inch alloy wheels and a new eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, which has been introduced as part of this update.

Dynamic versions add an electric driver’s seat, leather upholstery, blind-spot warning and rear cross traffic alert – the latter warning of dangers when reversing out of parking spaces. Meanwhile Exceed versions come with a TomTom satellite navigation, more luxurious leather upholstery, LED headlights, an electric boot and an around-view camera.

Both top-spec models are also offered with a ‘Safety’ package – this adding automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control to name but a few features.

Since the Outlander PHEV debuted in 2014, the firm has registered more than 50,000 examples, with the plug-in hybrid model being particularly popular with business users, thanks to its low CO2 emissions of 46g/km – meaning low company car tax rates. Mitsubishi claims it can achieve up to 139.7mpg, while it’s able to travel for 28 miles on electric power, making it ideal for those with short commutes.
