More 2017 Kia Picanto details released

Kia has revealed more details on its new-generation Picanto city car, which will make its public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show and go on sale in Britain this May.

Only to be offered as a five-door model, the new Picanto gains sporty-themed GT-Line and GT-Line S trims for the first time. These new trims add sporty detailing to the Kia, including a more muscular body kit, sportier steering wheel and bespoke paint jobs.

While the car is overall the same size as its predecessor, it has been redesigned so that the wheelbase is longer and there’s more head and legroom than before, plus a bigger boot.

New turbo petrol engine added

Engines confirmed for the new Kia Picanto include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 66bhp and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol offering 83bhp. Both engines are carried over from the previous Picanto city car.

A brand-new addition to the engine range is a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol with 99bhp, which lets the Picanto travel from zero to 60mph in 10.1 seconds. The Picanto uses a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, but a four-speed automatic ‘box is an option for the 1.2-litre petrol.

Inside, the new Picanto comes as standard with an infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen. It will come with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility.

Optional kit includes a wireless smartphone charger, a USB port and a reversing camera. The standard boot capacity is increased to 255 litres, which is more than the Volkswagen Up! and Hyundai i10.

The line-up of trims is not officially confirmed but the new Picanto range will reportedly start with the 1 trim, and other trims will include 2 and 3, as well as the new GT-Line trims.
