More Skoda cars to get built-in umbrellas

Skoda has announced that certain versions of the Citigo, Fabia and the Octavia will now, like the Superb, come available with a standard-fit umbrella to deal with Britain's unpredictable weather.

Did you know that it was possible to get a new Skoda Superb with an umbrella that’s kept in an in-built door container as standard? Well Skoda has announced that the feature will soon be included on more of their cars, including the Octavia and Citigo.

Skoda became the first manufacturer to introduce a car with a standard-fit umbrella when it launched the Superb saloon back in 2001. Since then, the standard-fit umbrella has remained a feature exclusive to range-topping examples of the flagship Superb saloon.

It’s now been confirmed though that from August 8 Skoda will include standard-fit umbrellas in high-end versions of the Citigo and Fabia. The feature will also be available for Octavia buyers, albeit as a £25 option for SE models and above.

First manufacturer to offer standard umbrella

While the Skoda Superb stores the umbrella in a special pocket in the door, the other cars now including it will store their umbrellas in ventilated trays under the seats. The umbrellas will also have an anti-bacterial coating to help prevent them becoming mouldy.

In a statement, Skoda said: “It’s not just pop star Rihanna offering the great British public the opportunity to ‘stand under my umbrella’ – now Skoda is extending that generosity!

“The news is certain to be welcomed by British motorists, who, on average, experience 133 days of rainfall every year and can expect to be drenched by 885mm of rain, hail, sleet and snow during an average year.”
