New details revealed about Skoda’s new Enyaq iV

Teaser images have also been officially shown of Skoda’s first bespoke EV

Skoda has revealed fresh details about its upcoming Enyaq iV, with a sporty vRS set to be offered, along with an electric range up to 311 miles.

Skoda has chosen its first EV to be an SUV – unsurprising given the success that it’s had with the likes of the Kodiaq and Karoq. While heavily camouflaged in the teaser images, the model looks to have an extended profile – not too dissimilar from an estate car. It will also feature a closed off front grille, which is a typical cue of an EV.

The Czech carmaker has also revealed further details about the upcoming electric SUV, which is Skoda’s first model to be based on the VW Group’s MEB platform.

Skoda is promising a large amount of interior space for the model – an advantage of having a bespoke EV – with the model having a generous 585 litres of boot space. While no interior pictures have been shown, the model’s set to offer ‘state-of-the-art’ connectivity and a large 13-inch touchscreen.

Buyers will be able to choose from three different battery sizes and five power outputs, too.

The entry-level model will be the Enyaq 50, which features a 55kWh battery offering 211 miles of range and an electric motor producing 148bhp. Following this is the Enyaq 60, which utilises a 62kWh battery and a 177bhp electric motor – enabling a range of 242 miles. The model with the longest range is the Enyaq 80, which features a large 82kWh battery and an electric motor serving up 201bhp – offering a claimed 311 miles between charges. All these versions are front-wheel-drive.

However, the 82kWh battery version is also available with two additional variants – the 80X and the vRS. The vRS is particularly notable as it will be Skoda’s first sporty electric model. Both the 80X and vRS feature a second electric motor, which allows for all-wheel-drive, and means the models produce 262bhp and 302bhp respectively – the latter will be Skoda’s most powerful road car ever. Both 80X and vRS derivatives are promised with a 286-mile range on a single charge.

As for vRS models, they will be able to sprint from 0-60mph in six seconds and reach a top speed of 112mph.

The models will also be able to charge at a rate up to 125kW – meaning the battery can be topped up to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.

The wraps will be taken off the Skoda Enyaq later in 2020, with the model arriving in showrooms in spring 2021.
