New eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf teased!

The all-new hatchback is entering the final testing phase.

Volkswagen has revealed the first official teaser of its all-new Golf hatchback, which is set to be unveiled in autumn.

The Golf is Volkswagen’s best-selling model, with more than 35 million examples being produced since the nameplate debuted in 1974.

In the teaser image, the development model is heavily camouflaged, but it shows the model to be larger than the current ‘7.5’ Golf, while slimmer headlights and a larger lower grille – housing various radars – are also new features on the all-new hatchback.

Volkswagen has announced that the new Golf is entering its final stage of testing, ahead of a debut later in the year.

The German manufacturer is keeping tight-lipped about the important new car, with the firm’s head of design, Klaus Bischoff, saying: “At this time, we will not disclose all details of the new Golf, but you can already perceive its elegant proportions.”

It will continue with the current Golf’s philosophy of offering a broad number of variant; from frugal diesels to plug-in hybrids, all-electric variants and powerful performance versions.

VW is also promising more digital connected services than ever, along with more advanced driver assistance features.

Prototype models are likely to appear at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but it will be later in the year when the production car is unveiled.
