New hybrids lead the changes to the 2018 Toyota RAV4

With hybrids now making up over two-thirds of the SUV’s sales, Toyota has expanded the RAV4 range, priced from £27,450

Toyota has released details of its 2018 RAV4, with further hybrids and new grading making up the car’s main changes.

Petrol-electric hybrid versions now account for 65 per cent of all UK RAV4 sales, which has led to Toyota expanding its hybrid range to every trim level offered on the car. Hybrid versions are now available on the front- and all-wheel drive versions too.

Despite Toyota clearly focusing on its hybrid variants, it will continue to offer the 2.0-litre diesel engine and 2.0-litre petrol with a CVT gearbox as it did before.

New trim levels include Icon, Icon Tech, Design and Excel, in ascending order. All-wheel-drive versions of the hybrid are only available on the Design and Excel grades.

Standard equipment on the entry-level Icon grade includes a seven-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and a reversing camera. It also features Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance features, dual-zone air conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers and an electric tailgate.

The new RAV4 starts at £27,450 which buys the 2.0-litre diesel in Icon specification, while the cheapest hybrid starts at £29,005 for the Icon with front-wheel drive. The range rises to £34,985, which gets you the hybrid version of the range-topping Excel specification.

The 2018 RAV4 is available to order from October 1, and also comes with a five-year, or 100,000-mile, warranty.
