New looks and a rude new exhaust for Renaultsport Clio

Following swiftly on from the recent facelift for the Renault Clio range, it’s now the Renaultsport hot hatch version’s turn for a slight nip and tuck.

The Renaultsport Clio RS now benefits from a slightly redesigned front bumper, while the spoiler, diffuser and twin exhaust pipes at the rear are carried over from the pre-facelift version.

As well as that, it also now gets the same neat LED light layout as the brutal 271bhp Clio R.S. 16 hot hatch concept, which combine the fog lights and cornering lights into a design that apes a chequered flag.

New looks, new optional extras

There’s also the option of new 18-inch wheels for the range, while the range-topping 220 Trophy model can be had with an optional Akrapovic exhaust system to liven up the car’s soundtrack.

The same exhausts used by Abarth on its hot hatches and Assetto Corse racing cars, the Akrapovic option should help to stifle critics who claim that the Clio RS is a little lacking in sonic charisma.

Elsewhere, all is much the same with each model in the Renaultsport Clio RS range powered by the existing 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with the same dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Order books open from September

As before, there’s still a choice of three different chassis setups, with the entry-level 200 getting a choice of ‘Sport’ or the stiffer ‘Cup’ chassis’, while the 220 Trophy gets its own unique setup.

Prices for the facelifted Renaultsport Clio RS have yet to be confirmed, but Renault says that orders are due to open from September with first deliveries due later this autumn.
