Renault Clio Renaultsport to add more hardcore version

Renault is reportedly adding a more hardcore Renaultsport Clio with at least 250bhp.

The Renault Clio Renaultsport hot hatch could be getting a new, quicker derivative called the KZ 01, which was revealed after images of the car leaked online.

Bold new styling touches

Images of the KZ 01 that have emerged online show the new range-topping hot hatch sports new exterior details like a large rear spoiler. Other changes include more aggressively-designed wheel arches, and fog lights on the bumpers which are modelled to recreate the Renaultsport badge when switched on.

According to reports, the Clio Renaultsport KZ 01 will most likely be revealed to the public on May 29th in Monaco, during the same weekend the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix takes place.

It’s also rumoured that the new car is currently just a concept but Renault is considering undertaking a limited production run of just 500 units.

More powerful engine

The KZ 01 will reportedly use either a souped-up version of the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine used on other Renaultsport Clios or the 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit used by the Renaultsport Megane.

Either way, power is apparently increased to as much as at least 250bhp, a substantial increase on the 217bhp offered by the 220 Trophy model. If the new Clio hot hatch uses the Megane engine, this increases the possibility that this will be the first of the current-generation Renaultsport Clios to use a manual gearbox.
