New spy shots show that big-winged Subaru BRZ STi is in the works

Subaru is finally giving the BRZ sports car the STi treatment according to new spy shots, which show a BRZ test mule wearing a big rear wing and STi badges.

Essentially since the BRZ was introduced, enthusiasts have been hoping for a ‘roided-up STi version with more power, and images captured by spy photographers show that it could soon be a reality.

Subaru has in the past toyed with STi-tweaked versions of the BRZ like the BRZ tS by STi, which was made for the Japanese domestic market but which offered only handling tweaks and no more power.

However, this development mule has been spotted in Michigan wearing US manufacturer plates, with the STi badging noticeable underneath the black tape used to disguise its form.

There’s no official word that a BRZ STi is even in the works, and the mule features no obvious upgrades that would hint at extra power, like a bonnet scoop to feed a turbo intercooler.

However, along with the bigger rear wing it gets a larger lip spoiler, bigger side skirts and large Brembo brakes on each of the wheels.

It’s possible that the car could simply be a more track-focused upgrade package, but sports car fans will be hoping that Subaru will listen to the enthusiasts and give the BRZ the power boost it deserves.
