New Volkswagen mini-SUV will rival Juke and Captur in 2018

Online reports say Volkswagen will launch a Juke and Captur-rivalling mini SUV crossover next year.

Volkswagen is reportedly developing a mini-SUV concept which will launch by the end of 2018. It can be expected to contend against the likes of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Vauxhall Mokka X.

While details (including the name) and images have not yet been officially revealed, online reports suggest Volkswagen’s new crossover is based on the T-Cross Breeze concept car shown at last year’s Geneva Motor Show (and seen in the image above).

However, while the T-Cross Breeze had a fabric folding roof and just two-doors, it’s believed that the production mini-SUV will have a fixed metal roof and five doors plus five seats. Volkswagen’s new mini-SUV will be based on the next-generation Volkswagen Polo and both cars will be built at VW’s plant in Pamplona, Spain.

The new mini-SUV will share engines with the new Polo, likely meaning it will offer three-cylinder and four-cylinder petrol units with power outputs potentially ranging between 74bhp and over 200bhp. A hybrid powertrain, which is being developed for use in several VWs, is also set to be included.
