Nissan has become hugely important to the UK automotive industry, with its Sunderland factory being a huge British success story.
So while the firm might have its headquarters in Japan, it does feel like a UK company, particularly with the firm having large engineering and design bases in Britain.
Its range has been slimmed down somewhat in recent years, with the Navara pick-up being discontinued, while the once well-loved Micra has departed the UK too. But what are the new Nissans available today? Let’s take a look.
Juke – from £20,420
Nissan absolutely dominates the crossover segment, with its funky Juke essentially establishing the compact end of the segment. This latest car is more stylish than ever while getting a higher-quality and more practical interior too.
With prices starting from £20,420, it represents great value for money next to many rivals, while there’s plenty of standard equipment included as well. Offered with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, Nissan is now introducing a more efficient hybrid model, bringing greater performance combined with lower running costs.
Qashqai – from £26,045
Not only Nissan’s best-selling model but also one of the UK’s most popular cars, the Qashqai has been a huge British success story, as it’s designed, engineered and built here, An ideal family crossover, it offers a very practical interior and impressive levels of safety kit that makes it a perfect choice if you have younger children.
This latest generation of Qashqai is better to drive and has a much more pleasant interior than its predecessor, too. Now exclusively offered with electrified powertrains, there’s the choice of a mild-hybrid or more efficient new e-Power version – the latter offering a driving experience not too dissimilar from an EV.
Leaf – from £28,995
Speaking of EVs, this is another one of Nissan’s specialities, and the Leaf has proven a very influential electric car over the years. Built alongside the Juke and Qashqai at the firm’s Sunderland plant, the Leaf is an ideal first EV thanks to its ease of use and familiarity.
It’s one of the most affordable electric cars on the market, and brilliant value for money when you compare it in price to many competitors. There’s the choice of two powertrains, too. The standard car offers a range of up to 168 miles, while the E+ uses a larger battery allowing the Leaf to travel up to 239 miles from a single charge.
X-Trail – from £32,030
The X-Trail is another one of Nissan’s mainstay products, having been a part of its line-up for more than 20 years. And it’s now returning for a new fourth generation with a brand-new model that’s rather different to its predecessor.
Now offering a far more muscular design, the X-Trail is offered with the same choice of hybrid powertrains as the Qashqai, while continuing to offer seven seats – a rarity in this segment. Set to reach UK dealers from October, prices start from a reasonable £32,030.
Ariya – from £43,845
Another new model for Nissan in 2022 is the all-electric Ariya. It’s been eagerly anticipated for some time, and certainly doesn’t disappoint. Aiming to take the firm further upmarket, the Ariya offers a particularly upmarket interior that offers plenty of space thanks to the use of an EV-specific platform.
Also boasting a modern design, the Ariya is good to drive and packed with technology. Bringing an electric range of up to 329 miles and particularly speedy rapid charging, it pushes the boundaries further for EVs from Nissan.
