There are hundreds of famous film cars, from James Bond’s Aston Martin to Mr Bean’s Mini, via all stops in between.
In terms of sci-fi movies, the most memorable movie cars are the De Lorean from Back to the Future and the futuristic Land Rover from Judge Dredd. But now Nissan has joined the fray, joining up with Star Wars creator Lucasfilm to create a series of cars related to the latest movie in the series, The Last Jedi, which appears in cinemas at the end of the year. The six special Nissan’s were unveiled at the recent Los Angeles auto show, to promote the Japanese firm’s tie-in with the new movie.
But what are they, and from what do they draw their inspiration? We take a look at each of them in turn.
Nissan Altima Elite Special Forces
The Altima isn’t sold in Europe, but is one of the best-selling models for Nissan in the USA, where it goes head-to-head with the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Altima’s livery replicates that of the Special Forces TIE Fighter used by the First Order’s Elite Special Forces in the movie. The car is finished in a matt black wrap with red camouflage stripes, while the windscreen is inspired by the shape of the TIE fighter itself. The wheels also get a makeover to look like part of the TIE fighter.
Nissan Maxima Kylo Ren
The Maxima is even bigger than the Altima and is Nissan’s executive car, which again isn’t sold in Europe. Three Maximas have been created as part of The Last Jedi series, with the first wearing a style inspired by character Kylo Ren’s facemask. The black and silver livery is set off by a unique v-shaped frontal treatment, which was hand-milled from a block of aluminium.
Nissan Maxima Captain Phasma
The second Maxima is inspired by another character from the film – Captain Phasma. The entire front end of the car has been replaced by aluminium armour, finished in a high gloss silver which runs along the flanks of the car. The top half is painted gloss black, with a red ‘stealth’ line running across the middle of the car.
Nissan Maxima TIE silencer
The third Maxima in the line-up is inspired by one the silencer on Kylo Ren’s TIE fighter, with unique bodywork constructed to follow the contours of the tubular part in the middle of the jet, with its circular slatted air intake. It’s certainly distinctive…
Nissan Rogue X-Wing
In European parlance, the Rogue is known as the Nissan X-Trail, and is marketed stateside as a compact SUV. The livery of the film car uses Poe Dameron’s X-Wing, part of the New Republic Starfleet, as a base, with additional thrusters and laser cannons along its sides and beefy off-road tyres. It’s our favourite of the six.
Nissan Rogue Sport A-Wing
The final car in The Last Jedi series is a Rogue Sport – or Qashqai as we know it – finished in a two-tone blue and white paint scheme to replicate one of the film’s A-Wing fighters. The wheels are also painted blue, with distinctive thrusters behind the rear doors.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in cinemas from Friday, December 15.
