One third of Brits uncomfortable driving on European roads

A recent survey has found that nearly one-third of British motorists don’t feel confident driving on roads in other European countries.

Euro Car Parts polled 1,019 UK drivers to find out how comfortable they felt about driving on the roads of other European countries. 29 per cent of the respondents revealed that they felt unconfident on the highways of Europe and just over a quarter (26 per cent) said they sometimes felt ‘uneasy’ while driving on such roads.

Travelling abroad, including driving on European roads, is a popular activity among British motorists. Data provided a couple of years ago from the Office for National Statistics revealed that on average, Brits take 34 million trips on holiday to the rest of Europe each year, and over 11 million of these are made by ferry or the Channel Tunnel.

But a significant portion seem uneasy about the prospect of driving on roads in other European countries, even though the survey found that over two-thirds of UK drivers would revise European road laws (71 per cent) and study local road signs (69 per cent) in preparation.

In light of the survey’s findings, Euro Car Parts has set up an online quiz for British motorists which tests their knowledge of driving on foreign roads. The online quiz allows users to find out how much they know about motoring laws in certain European countries (including Spain and Germany for instance) as well as the laws for driving in America.

Commenting on the survey results, Martin Gray from Euro Car Parts said: “Driving abroad needn’t be a scary thing. With the right preparation and by taking plenty of care, a foreign road trip can be exciting and be a great part of your holiday.”
