Orders open for 2016 Volkswagen Transporter

Orders are officially open for the new Volkswagen Transporter commercial vehicle range, with first deliveries of the new models expected to begin from September onwards.

Billed by Volkswagen as better looking, better equipped and more efficient than ever before, the sixth-generation Transporter continues the 60-year legacy of one of the world’s best-loved vans.

Prices start from £17,800 for the basic Zugkopf version, a bare-bones model consisting of just the cab and the bare chassis, while window van models are priced from £19,550.

Like the previous Transporter generations, a range of different body options are available, along with a choice of both short and long wheelbase options and three roof heights.

Volkswagen has also announced pricing for the new Transporter shuttle and the Caravelle, both of which have been given and range of updates and are priced from £23,440 and £30,165 respectively.

The entry-level Caravelle SE trim now features a range of new kit as standard, including Volkswagen’s fuel-saving BlueMotion technology, DAB digital radio and a five-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Likewise, the Transporter shuttle also comes with the same BlueMotion technology and DAB radio with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity as standard, along with seating for up to nine people.

Both the shuttle and Caravelle models come with a range of new Euro 6-compliant diesel engines, plus stop-start technology and low rolling resistance tyres as standard to reduce fuel consumption.

Outputs range from 83bhp to 201bhp, with lower-powered 83bhp and 101bhp engines equipped with five-speed manual gearboxes, while larger 148bhp and 201bhp units are available with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatics.

Volkswagen claims the engines are up to 20 per cent cleaner than the the previous generation Transporter, with the 2.0-litre 148bhp diesel able to deliver up to 47.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 155g/km.

A limited-edition version of the Transporter Caravelle will also be available from launch, complete with an exclusive two-tone red and white finish and a range of extra styling touches.
