Petrol prices drop for fourth month in a row

There’s good news for Britain’s petrol car owners, as the price of unleaded fuel at the pumps has fallen for a fourth consecutive month.

Data from the RAC Fuel Watch reveals that the average price of unleaded petrol at the end of October 2015 was 107.8p, a drop from 109.5p at the start of the month. This sort of price drop is the equivalent of saving 90p on the cost of filling up a typical family car with a 55-litre tank.

There was also a drop in the average price of unleaded when comparing the start and ends of each of the previous three months prior to October. Since July 2015, the cost of a full tank of unleaded fuel has now fallen by an estimated £5.08.

Diesel fuel also enjoyed a price drop in October, although the difference is only fractional. Between the start and end of last month, the average price for diesel fell from 110.26p to 109.95p.

An RAC spokesman, Simon Williams, said: “We are currently enjoying a sustained period of lower fuel prices as a result of the long-term deflated oil price which has been brought about by OPEC (the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) looking to stop competitors taking its share of the market by overproducing and keeping the barrel price low.”
