Peugeot surpasses production milestone for new 208 supermini

The firm has also reached 10,000 sales of hybrid and electric models

Peugeot is celebrating 20,000 UK sales of its new 208 supermini, despite the model only being introduced last year,

It’s now one of the firm's most popular models and was the first Peugeot to tie into the firm’s new philosophy to offer customers a wide choice of powertrains, with a petrol, diesel and electric e-208 model available. The latter has proven a hit, too, accounting for more than a fifth of 208 sales, which is well above the market average.

Thanks to a large 50kWh battery, the e-208 is also capable of 217 miles on a full charge, while 100kW rapid charging capability means its battery can be topped up to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes.

Julie David, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: “Marking 20,000 sales of the 208 is a great cause of celebration. It was the first vehicle from Peugeot to be available with efficient diesel and petrol engines, or as a full electric variant, all under a single design with no compromise in capability.

“With the full electric variant accounting for more than 20 per cent of registrations, it shows how popular and successful our strategy has been so far, and we look forward to seeing more customers behind the wheel of our growing electric line-up.”

At the same time, Peugeot is also celebrating its 10,000th sale of hybrid and electric models, with the firm’s growing range now including electric crossovers and vans, while hybrid saloons, estates and SUVs are also available to customers.
